Gemini season in a world that loves to talk

Another astrologer dubbed this month Gemini season as the sun moves through the sign of Gemini, starting on the 21st May (2024) and leaving on 20th June at summer solstice.

Starting with a bit about Gemini. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini is all about communication and the gathering of data. It is also the first relationship sign in the zodiac so is a sociable sign. Gemini is represented by the twins in the sky, and symbolises our environmental relationships. In early life that is our siblings and classmates and in later life our neighbours. My colleague who won't stop talking has quite a few planets in Gemini, as does my friend who loves to learn and has done a number of adult learning courses.

So what about this particular Gemini season? I am a bit late with this blog, as I didn't have time to write when the inspiration for it came with the full moon in Sagittarius.

This season began with a waxing gibbous moon, which became full on the 24th May.

While the sun represents consciousness, the moon represents the subconscious and more instinctual side of ourselves, and at full moon those two facets are in opposite signs. This presents a challenge between what is outwardly seen, and what is within and in the shadows. Full moons are seen as points of completion and a time to reflect.

So this Gemini season started with reflection. The dichotomy between Gemini, the data, the talking, the local relationships and Sagittarius, the search for the truth and the need to go beyond our horizons and find our purpose. Each sign needs the opposite sign to find balance. The data needs to be assimilated into something that we can believe to be true. Sometimes to find our purpose we need to journey beyond our immediate environment and that journey needs to be taken alone (metaphorically speaking). This full moon I thought of the hermit in the tarot pack. Tarot, like astrology, illustrates different aspects of the human psyche and experience. Sagittarius is the 9th sign of the zodiac, and the hermit the 9th card in the major arcana. The hermit represents the need to make your own journey, which fits with Sagittarius, and the search for the truth, whatever that may mean to you. So this Gemini season started with the need to go within and reflect on what data is true for us. We live in a world of information overload. Communication has never been easier, but even so we need to stay in touch with ourselves and our own journeys and inner truth. And I felt that was what this season's full moon represented and is how this Gemini season started.

The next big lunar point in the Gemini season was last quarter on the 30th May. At quarter moons that sun and moon are square, which presents challenges between the inner and outer worlds. This last quarter saw the moon in Pisces. This is a challenging square because Gemini is a very logical and rational sign. It deals in facts, not dreams. Pisces on the other hand is a water sign and the line between the tangible and intangible is fluid. This is very tricky for Gemini. The last quarter of the moon's cycle is the releasing phase. Letting go can be hard. The talking and the data overload comes up against our more private and sensitive dreams. What is intuition and what is illusion? That is the dilemma of Pisces and when the sun is in Gemini, dealing very much in facts, there is an uncomfortable requirement to make the distinction. Which dreams can be carried forward, and what needs to be released?

New moon, and the start of a new lunar cycle comes on the 6th June, half way through Gemini. This is a fresh start from a learning perspective. Having gone through the reflection of the full moon in Sagittarius and releasing of the last quarter, we can be ready to think about what we would like to learn and who we would like to connect with. With Mercury and Venus both in Gemini too by this stage the focus is on sociability and communication. There is value in learning, and also sharing of ideas.

Jupiter also moved into Gemini, just after the full moon. This is a more tricky placement. Jupiter in Gemini can be overly logical, and can get bogged down in the data, so we need to guard against this.

First quarter comes on the 14th June in Virgo. This brings the need to assimilate and organise facts and data into something useful. The first quarter is a square between the sun and moon, as so for last quarter presents challenges. Virgo desires order, and can be critical and feel the need to fix things and people. So there can be tension here, and at this point we need to make sure we lighten up and don't become too critical of our friends or ourselves for that matter. Most of us are doing our best 💜

Gemini season ends as summer solstice comes in with a waxing gibbous moon again working up to a full moon in Capricorn a couple of days later on 22nd June.

Namaste xx
